MANILA - President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo expressed her condolonces with the Aquino family for the death of former President Corazon Aquino, Press Secretary Cerge Remonde said Saturday from the US where Mrs. Arroyo is visiting.
The Palace also announced a seven-day official mourning period for the former head of state.
Mrs. Aquino died at 3:18 a.m. August 1 at the age of 76.
Remonde said Mrs. Arroyo learned of the former president's death while they were in a convoy from Washington D.C. to Andrews airbase.
He said they were to catch a flight to New York, where they will have a "serious discussion" on whether Mrs. Arroyo should cut her official trip short to join Filipinos in mourning for the former president's death.
